Local Restaurants

Many are within walking distance ~

        Starlight Theatre – 432.371.3400 – 5PM to 10PM; Bar open till Midnight

Terlingua Ghostown. Live Music – Monday thru Saturday (typically).  Steaks, Exotic Meats, Street Tacos, Sandwiches & Burgers.  They have something for everyone.  And, the best spot to watch the Chisos Mountains change colors at Sunset (other than your casita).  The Starlight is very popular – you can expect long waits - especially around holidays and spring break.  The wait is part of the experience.  It can be a very social opportunity to visit with other visitors and locals.  So, grab a drink from the bar or the Cantina (next to it) and hang out on the patio, watch the mountains change colors and relax while you wait.  If the wait times are too much for you, DB’s Rustic Iron, Taqueria El Milagro (both nearby) or Long Draw Pizza would be great alternatives.

LaKiva  –  432.371.2250  – 4PM to 10PM; Bar open until 12PM (Closed Tuesday)*

Hwy 170 Just west of the Terlingua Creek Bridge.  LaKiva is an eclectic space and a LOCAL FAVORITE with great food (burgers) and a variety of daily specials from Pasta to Seafood nights.  Indoor/outdoor seating and Live Music often.  If the Starlight is busy, busy – LaKiva is a great option…!!

       DB’s Rustic Iron BBQ – 432.210.3457 – Lunch & Dinner - Call for hours

Terlingua Ghostown.  Live Music (often).  DB knows what he is doing - rated within the top 10 Best BBQ on Trip Advisor – I’m impressed!  Small bar, beer & ice togo and ATM machine.

Long Draw Pizza – 432.371.2608 – Sat & Sun 2PM to 9PM; Mon, Wed, Thur, Fri 4PM to 9PM (CLOSED Tue)*

Hwy 170, 2 miles West of the Ghostown.  Live music (often). If you want to “See the Game” – Long Draw is the place to go!  Their pizzas are great - very good selection.  I love their garlic/parmesan wings and cauliflower crusted pizza… seriously addicted!!  They have a couple of beers on tap and a cooler full of bottled options.

        Espresso Y Poco Mass – 7:30AM to 2PM*

Terlingua Ghostown. My favorite Coffee Shop - hands down.  Open for breakfast and lunch only.  They make everything from scratch, so service can be a little slow; but the atmosphere and views from their location make it a great place to sit back and enjoy a relaxing morning.  Also a good place to tap into Wifi.  I always order the Eggs Benedict, cause I just don’t want to make it at home….lol.  But, for lunch – I go back and forth between the Ruben and the Salad.  They don’t really label their salad correctly – it is BIG.  It should be called a “Chef Salad” but really more like a chopped salad packed with lots of yummy morsels.

        Taqueria El Milagro – 432.372.2060 – 4PM to 9PM Wednesday thru Sunday*

Terlingua Ghostown. The Taqueria is a close second to a ‘Street Taco’ restaurant in Mexico with outside seating. They offer Tacos, Steaks, Shrimp Cocktails and more. BYOB. Call ahead and you can pick up from their drive thru window.

Milky Way Treats & Ice Cream Truck  – 832.451.7533 – Weekends & Seasonal*

Valerie’s dessert cart is located at the entrance to the Community Garden in the Ghostown Saturday Mornings. She makes fresh cinnamon rolls, kolaches, granola, brownies, fudge, pies, cookies, other treats, sweets and cakes.  She is also a wedding officiant, photographer and makes wedding cakes.

The Ice Cream Truck is parted at the Boathouse and open most weekends…!!!

High Sierra Restaurant & Bar – 12PM to 10PM; Bar open till Midnight

Terlinuga Ghostown. High Sierra has new owners..!  Their burgers and fries are awesome.  I haven’t tried anything else yet.

Rio Bravo “on Wheels” (food truck) – Mexican Food – Closed Sunday – 7AM to 9PM*

Hwy 118 south of 170 junction, across from the Cottonwood Store on the way to the Nat’l Park.  Rio Bravo is a local favorite!!  Recently changed locations from a leased building to purchasing a Food Truck.  We are excited to have them back after a long absence, and supporting their decision.  Serving breakfast burritos from 7 to 11am and lunch/dinner from 11am to 9pm.

Chili Pepper - Mexican Food – 432.371.2233 – 8AM to 9PM (breakfast, lunch & dinner)*

Hwy 118 north of 170 junction, next to Post Office.  Chili Pepper is a little bit TxMexy – great for Tacos, Nachos, Chalupas or Burgers.  They have a pretty good beer selection too.

Canyon Brew Coffee Shop @ Far Flung Outdoor Center – 7AM to 11AM*

Hwy 170 West of 118 junction. Canyon Brew is a walk-up and order coffee shop – everything is to go.  There is a little seating, but if they are gathering up for a river excursion the tables may be full.  On that note – I know they have the best homemade muffins in the Big Bend!  They usually have 4 to 6 flavors to choose from.  If you don’t want a muffin, they also have bagels or frozen kalaches they’ll pop in the microwave for you.

Big Bend Resort & Adventure Café (Gas Station) – 7AM to 9PM*

Hwy 118 & 170 junction.  Your typical American Café and menu.  During the busy season they offer an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet and pre-made burritos to go.  They can be a good breakfast option if you are in a hurry.  I love their Ruben and fries – yummy!

El Gordo’s Grill (Food Truck) - Mexican Food – 432.244.9264 - 7AM to 9PM

Hwy 118 north of 170 junction in the Wright Hardware parking lot - look for the Turquois Food Truck.  Everything is so good!! Excellent traditional Mexican cuisine: Barbacoa, Birria, Tacos, Burritos, Horchata - some daily specials, including Menudo, and the burgers are delish..!!

Chisos Mountain Basin Restaurant – 432.477.2292 (Call for hours/availability)

Your typical National Park concessions restaurant.  The sunsets thru “The Window” (gap in the mountains with view of the basin beyond) can be some of the best in the area.
